Bauer woods - Before & After

Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a before & after come together seamlessly!

Our recent Bauer Woods project offered a strong foundation and layout to work with, but needed a new design vision to turn this house into a home. By making structural changes like raising the sunken living room and refinishing the fireplace with plaster, the feel of the space was immediately improved. Details such as the Linen and James pillows allowed us to showcase our partnerships with fellow small businesses and tie in the furniture with other colors in the room. Follow along our design process to see how we transformed this family home into an elevated and functional space!

One of the first changes we knew we wanted to make was to remove the sunken living room.

By raising the floor, the transition between entryway and living room became more continuous. This allowed us to make more design choices like a larger rug to tie in other rooms with the open concept. We removed the railings that were on both sides of the living room entry, which was greatly breaking up the spaces. Additionally, we removed the angled ceiling tray to remove outdated elements that would’ve felt out-of-place in the final product. As seen in the previous pictures, the room felt very choppy and outdated.

Painting the walls, choosing a lighter floor to continue from the entryway to the living room, and making sure the surrounding spaces matched the vibe all contributed to the success of this project!

Another structural change we invested in was reshaping the fireplace and finishing it with plaster.

We expanded the fireplace opening for a grander appearance to compliment the size of the other fireplace elements. The subtle mantle allowed us to style the space with a mirror, picture, and candles as linked in the Designer’s Details below. To match the texture of the fireplace, we skim-coated the ceilings which also brightened the space.

The details tied this project together, from the Linen and James pillows, to the smaller pieces on the coffee table. We were thrilled to see the outcome of this living room transformation and were even more pleased to see how excited the client was!
